A native of Grand Island, Nebraska, James B Luers received his B.S. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1973, and received his J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1976.
Following law school, Jim was hired as a Deputy County Attorney in the Lancaster County Attorney's Office and served in that position from 1976 through 1980, devoting his efforts primarily to the prosecution of major felony cases. In 1980, Jim left the County Attorney's Office for private practice. Since leaving the County Attorney's Office, Jim has in the past served as Special Defense Counsel appointed for Lincoln Correctional Center parole hearings, Hearing Officer for pretrial diversion appeals, and Special Prosecutor for the Lancaster County Attorney's Office.
Jim's present practice has focused primarily on litigation in a variety of arenas, including: banking, construction law, insurance defense, medical malpractice, FELA, workers' compensation, personal injury and general liability issues. He is engaged in a general trial practice involving courts throughout Nebraska and in Federal District Court. Jim has also become involved in environmental litigation and is a member of the National Resources and Environmental section of the American Bar Association.
Jim and his wife, Cindy, have two children. Jim is active in the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Lincoln and his community activities include his involvement in the Lincoln Public Schools V.I.P. Program. He is currently a member of the Lincoln, Nebraska State and American Bar Associations, and a member of the Nebraska Association of Trial Lawyers and National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. |
